Youth Ministry

Hijas de Maria: This group meets on the third Sundays after the 11:30 AM Mass in the rectory. It is open to girls from age 7 to 16, encouraging them to model their lives on the example of the Mother of God. The group performs community service for the church as well as having instructional meetings and social events. To join, contact Milagros Prietri at 508-765-5003.

Los Jóvenes: This is an organization of Spanish youth that meets every Thursday at 6:30 PM in the Ministry Center (downstairs). Young Neighbors in Action (YNIA): This is a service oriented hands-on summer week project sponsored by the Center for Ministry Development. Our parish team organizes in September and meets monthly. In addition, adults are needed to help chaperone and with fundraising. Plans are in place for the third week of July for the youth to travel to and work in Buffalo, NY. Scouting: Our parish is sponsor for Cub Pack 140 and Boy Scout Troop 160. They meet in the Ministry Center on Wednesday evenings. These activities are open to boys from age 5 to 18. Boys interested should have their parents make the contact. Volunteers are always welcome and needed for the activities and special events. To volunteer, contact Juan Guzman at 508-765-1996.

Trees of Memories: Initiated in 2009, this activity offers the opportunity to remember a loved one by creating an angel ornament to decorate the trees that grace our sanctuary through the winter holiday season. An additional ornament may also be made and laminated to be brought home and placed on a tree there. Assistants are needed to help understand the activity and assist with stickers and other decorations as well as with the laminating. Help is also needed with refreshments. To volunteer, contact Debbie Sullivan at 508-765-9871.

Dismas House: Dismas House is named for the thief who hung on the cross with Jesus and repented of his sins. This house was founded by Catholics in Worcester to assist those leaving incarceration and returning to life in the public sector. Once a month a meal is organized and either cooked there or delivered by parishioners who dine with the residents and share their life’s stories. A coordinator is needed to organize a monthly effort from the English speaking community. To volunteer with the Spanish community who provides a meal on the third Monday of the month, contact Milda Ortiz at 508-764-2929.

Knights of Columbus: Founded by the Venerable Michael McGivney in New Haven, CT in the late 19th Century this organization is a worldwide fraternity that promotes Catholicism, defends the unborn, and performs charitable works unequaled in our times. Our local DeTreana Council #199 meets on the second Tuesday of the month at their Council quarters. For more information, contact the Grand Knight, Gabe LaFleche, at 508-764-9810.

Parish Musical / Variety Show: All the world’s a stage and we are all players on it. But there are those who love to ham it up, and others of us who love to watch. In 2015, we hope to offer a parish show. Needed will be those who love to sing, dance and act along with stagehands, musicians and others to help produce and promote with advertising, building sets and securing donations. For more information, or to volunteer, contact Mr. Brandon Vennink at 508-765-3701  ext 20.

Liturgy Commission: This committee will meet various times during the year to review and advise the pastor on our parish liturgy. Members will be required to attend training apart from committee meetings to have the necessary background for the work of this commission to enhance the celebration of liturgy in our parish. With the implementation of the revisions of the Third Edition of the Roman Missal, and our adjusting to unfamiliar worship spaces, there is a lot of work for this commission. To volunteer, contact Mr. Brandon Vennink at 508-765-3701  ext 20.
