The worship of God in the Eucharist is ‘the source and summit’ of our life as a Catholic people. The Church teaches us that true worship requires the full and active participation of all the People of God. To that end, we employ a variety of needs and ministries in the course of each celebration of the Mass to make it meaningful and inspirational. The following are the ministries of our parish that assist in worship:
Altar Servers: Any boy or girl, woman or man, who has received his or her First Communion and is interested in assisting at Mass by serving, is welcome to join this ministry. We also need adults who are available during the week to assist at funerals. Training is provided; depending on your Mass preference, the rotation is once or twice a month. To volunteer for English Masses, contact Juan Guzman at 508-765-1996; for Spanish Mass Deacon Teodoro at 508-764-2858.
Choirs: We are blessed in our parish with three choirs already and are interested in creating a fourth, if there is enough interest among our youth. To join any of the choirs does not require an exceptional or even good voice. It is more important to have a love of singing and to use it to give glory to God and help others praise the Lord in song.
•§ English: The English Mass choir sings at the 10 AM Mass and practices on Tuesdays from 7 to 8:30 PM from September to June. To volunteer, contact Mr. Brandon Vennink: 508-765-3701 ext 20.
•§ Spanish: The Spanish Mass choir sings for the 11:30 AM Mass each week. The choir practices on Wednesdays from 7 to 8:30 PM. To volunteer, contact Mr. Brandon Vennink: 508-765-3701 ext 20.
•§ Children: The Spanish community sponsors a special children’s choir for children in grades 4 and up. They sing at special liturgies and events for the Spanish community, and the fourth Sunday of each month. To volunteer, contact Marta Rojas at 508-320-1253 or Hector Alvarado at 508-523-8617.
Sacristy: The details of each Mass or devotion require knowledge and helping hands to prepare the vessels and other aspects of our divine worship. Those interested, contact Father Peter.
Environment: We are blessed with three beautiful worship spaces! Each season it needs a creative eye to make it inspirational as well as fitting to the season or theme. Time for this ministry varies. To volunteer, please contact Father Peter in the parish office as we will be creating a new group from our various parishes.
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion: to be an EMHC, one must be a confirmed Catholic, living in a valid Catholic marriage and without any cause for public scandal.
•§ Weekend Masses: These ministers are assigned on a monthly basis and assist in serving the Blessed Sacrament at Mass. To serve at English Masses, contact Father Peter at 508-765-3701; for Spanish Mass, contact Sor Maria at 508-765-0394.
•§ Home Visitation: English speaking homebound parishioners are visited every Friday for weekly or monthly communion. Spanish speaking parishioners are visited on Sundays. To assist in this ministry, please contact Father Peter or Sister Maria.
•§ Hospital Visitation: At Harrington Memorial Hospital, these volunteers are known as Pastoral Outreach Volunteers and assist to bring communion and visit those hospitalized. To volunteer, contact Father Peter at 508-765-3701.
•§ Nursing Home Mass Assistant: The 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month, our parish holds Mass at the local nursing home, Radius. An assistant helps to set up Mass and bring communion to the residents on the floors. To volunteer, contact Father Peter.
Leaders of the Liturgy of the Word for Children: At the 10 and 11:30 Masses on Sundays, children are dismissed to hear God’s Word proclaimed and explained at a simpler level. These leaders preach the Word and lead worship for 12 – 30 participants. Training is provided. To volunteer, contact Maddy Proulx: 508-764-6582.
Lectors: Proclaiming the Word of God is a vital part of every Mass. Good readers who make the Word come alive and speak to our hearts are always needed. Service is once or twice a month. Training is provided. To volunteer, contact Father Peter at 508-765-3701 or for Spanish Mass, Sister Maria at 508-765-0394.
Ministers of Hospitality: These important ministers begin our liturgy by helping those who arrive at church to know they are welcome at our worship. For visitors and guests, they provide helpful information and hospitality. To volunteer, contact Gerry Proulx at 508-764-3688.
Collectors: An important part of our weekend worship is the collection of donations to our parish. Many ministers of hospitality do this ministry also, but one need not be a requisite for the other. To assist, please contact Gerry Proulx at 508-764-3688.
